Roney Eford hails from New York City and attended Archbishop Molloy High School for a year. He then went on to the prestigious Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts. He graduated with honors and was a high school All-American, leaving as the school's all-time leading scorer. He continued on to Marquette University, where, as a four-year starter, he left his mark on the all-time Marquette record book.

His team played in the NCAA Tournament three out of his four years he was there, with his sophomore squad advancing to the "Sweet Sixteen" under coach Kevin O' Neill of the Memphis Grizzlies. Current New Jersey Net head coach Lawrence Frank also coached Roney at Marquette.

Some of the NBA pro athletes Roney has worked out are Sebastian Telfair, Reese Gaines, and Andre Barrett, and the Beijing Ducks Chinese professional basketball team.


After the conclusion of his college career he played with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA summer league.  He was in summer camp with the Bucks, Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat a number of times. He went on to play eight years internationally in Europe and Asia. He played in Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, China, and Korea, as well at stateside in the CBA and USBL. Consequently, he is conversational in German, Spanish, and Japanese. He has held the title of owner, president, general manager, and head coach with numerous minor league teams over the years.

He started his own basketball academy in 2003, with the aim to teach youths the fundamentals of the game of basketball. He has also been a consultant and scout to many international teams in Europe and Asia.

Roney is a tireless worker and organizer. He holds a B.A. in Communications from Marquette University ('96) where he was a student-athlete. He has over 11 years experience coaching, teaching, and youth development experience nationally and internationally. He has a passion to assist youths reach their full potential in life and learning the fundamentals of the game of basketball.

  • Second all-time in games played (125)

  • 1,471 points (11th all-time)

  • 697 rebounds

  • One of the only 16 Marquette players ever to have 1000 points/500 rebounds in a career

  • Ninth all-time in 3-point goals (150)

  • Seventh in 3-point shooting at 38.5%

  • Great Midwest Conference Newcomer of the year (1993)

  • Street and Smith's 5th team All-Freshman
